Graham Hill scored his fourth of a total of five Monaco Grand Prix victories driving this brand new Lotus 49B at the annual May of 1968 Monte Carlo race. Monaco was the beginning of what was to become the year of the wing, and Team Lotus showed up with a wedge shaped car that sported a low mounted wing over the carburetors. Graham Hill's record setting victory then, and the adhesion of the new, radically shaped Lotus, set wondering minds to thinking. Actually, that was all that was needed to set off the start of a Formula One wing explosion.
The car modeled by Exoto is Lotus 49B/R5 as driven by Hill at Monaco. This fabulous racing machine was also driven by Mario Andretti, Jackie Oliver and Bill Brack during the 1968 season. According to racing records, this car never raced again after the 1968 season was completed.
