Held in Buenos Aires, the 7th Gran Premio de la Republica Argentina was a 3-hour timed event around the 2.2-mile circuit. Ascari was teamed with Farina, Villoresi and the young Mike Hawthorn, making his debut for the team from Maranello. Villoresi got away fastest, but the master was soon back in front and led until the chequered flag fell. Ascari was starting 1953 on a high note, winning the opening round of the Formula One World Championship season!
Back in the 1950s, a driver often didn't run the same number two races in a row. Ascari did, however, also drove #10 in France and in his successful attempt at the Grand Prix of Belgium.
