May 23, 1965 — Less than seven days after the race at Spa, Alan Mann had three Daytona Coupes ready for action in the 1000 km Rennen Nürburgring.
During qualifying, Bondurant, this time teamed with local hero and driving instructor Jochen Neerpasch, set a new class record that would stand for 15 years. His lap of 9:18.5 over the 14-mile circuit was 18.5 seconds faster than the previous record!
During the race, his Daytona Coupe ran flawlessly and Bondurant built up an insurmountable lead. The GT competition proved no match for the three Cobra Daytonas. At the end of the race, all six Coupe drivers stood on the GT podium together, a site that was already becoming common with their total domination of the 1965 World GT Championship.
